One of the many highlights of Live 8 UK Concerts was the reunited Pink Floyd. The band, originally formed in 1965 by Syd Barrett; took their name from legendary blues musicians Pink Anderson and Floyd Council.
Nearly a quarter century of bitterness, the classic lineup of Pink Floyd, including band co-founder and innovative force Roger Waters, took the stage to perform at the Live 8 concert in London on July 2, 2005. It had been said that David Gilmour and Roger Waters would play again when pigs fly.
Roger Waters, a major contributor to the group, left in 1983 when he tried to assert more control over their music. Waters unsuccessfully sued the group when they continued to record and perform as Pink Floyd. They vowed never to play together again. David Gilmour said the two sides could put aside their differences for the sake of Live 8.
Setting aside their differences, David Gilmour is quoted to say “Any squabbles Roger and the band have had in the past are so petty in this context and if re-forming for this concert will help focus attention then it’s going to be worthwhile,” “The cynics will scoff. Screw ’em.”
Live Aid guru Bob Geldof appeared in the band’s film, The Wall. Geldof was able to get the two talking and the result was the group re-forming for the Live 8 show in London.
